THESE. ARE. AMAZING
Simple as that….
These homemade Baked Apple Doughnuts were absolutely delicious! And they’re baked, not fried, so that makes them semi-healthy, right?? That probably negates all the sugar added into this recipe, I’m sure of it! Regardless, healthy or not, these doughnuts were absolutely FAB!

These doughnuts were super easy to make, and fun! An easy project for a fall weekend with kids, or simply for yourself. It does require a doughnut pan- I found one at Target, but I know for my Vermonters there isn’t a Target nearby so you can easily order one off of Amazon as well! Check out this double pan set HERE.

The batter makes about 2 dozen doughnuts total. At the time I made them, I was home by myself as Conor was gone for the week. I knew if I had 24 doughnuts laying around the house I’d no doubt end up eating them all because they’re just THAT good! So I wrapped them up and brought them to the hospital with me the next day! They were all gone by the time I was headed home- so I’ll take that as a good sign, and that they were a crowd pleaser! One of my fellow nurses told me “it was like Fall in my mouth!”
They were a hit!!
Check out the recipe, try them out this November, and let me know your thoughts!

BAKED APPLE DOUGHNUTS
INGREDIENTS:
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 4 tsp baking powder
- 1 1//2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp baking soda
- 1 1/2 Tbs ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp ground nutmeg
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
- 2 eggs
- 1 Cup sugar
- 1/2 Cup buttermilk
- 1 Cup unsweetened applesauce from the jar
- 1 1/2 Cup fresh apple, peeled and grated
FOR THE COATING
- Unsweetened applesauce
- 1 Cup sugar
- 1 Tbs ground cinnamon
- Dash of ground nutmeg
PREPARATION:
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees
- In a large bowl whisk together flour, baking powder, salt, baking soda, cinnamon, and nutmeg
- In another large bowl stir together butter, eggs, sugar, buttermilk, and applesauce. Stir in fresh apple
- Add 1/3 of the flour batter to the egg mixture, stir to mix. Add another 1/3 of the flour mixture and stir. Add remaining flour and stir until combined.
- Spoon batter into a large ziplock bag. Seal bag and cut the corner off of one side. Spray doughnut pan and squeeze batter into donut pan, filling each section about 2/3 full.
- Bake at 375 for about 15 minutes. Let cool 5 minutes before removing from the pan
- For the outside coating, combine sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg in a small bowl. Use a pastry brush to coat each doughnut with applesauce. Dip into sugar mixture and toss to coat. Let cool completely, then for an added extra crunch, toss doughnuts in sugar mixture one more time!

Can’t wait to make these!! XOXOXOXO
