Turning the Page to Florida

Well, we’ve made quite a few changes in our life in the last few weeks. We’ve turned the page in this chapter of our life and have moved from Oklahoma to Florida.

While getting ready to leave Enid, we unfortunately had to experience our first real Air Force goodbye. We had made so many great friends there and have so many amazing memories. One of our last days there, I found myself quite reflective. Although Enid, Oklahoma may not have been quite so glamorous, it will always be one of our greatest experiences to look back on-  we finally ended our five year long distance relationship, Conor began training to pursue his dream, I landed my first job as an RN, and we began our relationship as an engaged couple! There is so much to look back upon and simply just smile. And although we are beyond excited to have started this new life in Florida, Oklahoma will always hold  a special place in our hearts.

To our Enid friends- Thank you. We love you, miss you, and are so grateful for your love and friendship. Good luck to you all, and see you in the skies!

As we left Enid last Thursday, we knew we had quite a long journey ahead of us to get to Fort Walton Beach in FL. Conor and I had to drive separately, me following him the entire way. We did the 15 hour trek in two long days. The drive itself for the most part was fine, however unfortunately in the entire 15 hours of driving, it rained (sometimes down-poured) for about 13.5 of those hours. But, what’s life if not a little bit exciting, right?

We arrived in Florida on Friday and were lucky enough to stay at Conor’s Family’s house in Niceville for a couple of days until we were able to move into our temporary housing. Lucky for us they’re only about 20-30 minutes away from where we will be living. We’re so excited to be close to family again.

We drove to Fort Walton Beach on Sunday and were thrilled to see just HOW MUCH there is to do here. Not only is there the amazing white sand beaches, but every store and restaurant you can think of lines all main roads. The New Englanders in us were just a little bit too ecstatic when we saw there was a Dunkin Donuts in town…

There is a nice beach right on base that allows dogs at all times, so it didn’t take us long to get there and try to get Jaggs in the water for the first time. He is originally from Kansas and then has lived in Oklahoma all of his life, so he’s never really seen water like this before. He was timid at first but we’ve taken him to the beach every day since then and he’s finally getting more comfortably with swimming. He may not be the most graceful, but he sure is fun to watch.

We will be living in temporary housing on base until we move into an apartment next week. We have a short term lease in this apartment while we look for a house here. We are really looking forward to getting settled and truly making this place a home.

For now, we are just enjoying the sunshine, water, and all that Florida has to offer us!
