Although it’s been about a month since Conor and I first got engaged, I knew I wanted to share it on the blog at some point. I’m planning on using this blog to document the ups and downs of our wedding planning, being able to look back on these posts years from now to remember it all.
December 28, 2015 will now always be a date we hold near and dear to our hearts

After being together for 6.5 years and having had discussions about it previously, I was hoping an engagement was in the mix for us coming up soon. After we had booked tickets back home to Vermont for Christmas, I was then REALLY hoping it would happen then and there with all our families.
A few days after Christmas, Conor and I had gone up to Maine to visit his cabin with his family. As it is a place that holds a lot of special memories for not only him but both of us as well, I was thinking it might happen while we were there. After it didn’t, I had just given up on thinking it’d happen this time around and thought that maybe it will happen in the future some other time.
But…
On the 28th, Conor and I had decided to go for a hike with our dogs in the afternoon. As soon as we got to the top, we went to go take a picture together but instead he got down on one knee and asked me to marry him! To be honest, I kind of blacked out, I had to ask him later if he got down on one knee because I couldn’t remember. His response was pointing at the knee of his jeans that was covered in snow and mud. Oops!!

I must say, he did a GOOD job! I couldn’t stop smiling and telling him how much I loved him (and the ring).

And of course I had to get a picture with my puppy sister
On the entire walk down we had to decide how we were going to tell our families. We didn’t want to tell one family first and have to choose. So, what we did was call his family and told them to drive to my house and meet us there. They didn’t ask too many questions as they had suspected what was going on. As soon as we got off the phone with his Dad, I called my Mom and told her :
“The Higgins are coming over!”
Where her only response to that was,
“To MY house?? Why?”
To that I responded, “See you in 30 minutes!” and hung up the phone.
As soon as we pulled in the driveway and walked inside, everyone had known what was going on. We showed them my ring without even having to announce we are engaged. Immense love filled the room as we hugged everyone and received numerous congratulations.
The rest of the night was spent telling, calling, and texting many family members and friends- receiving lots of love and well wishes.
As we flew back to Oklahoma two days after that, we both couldn’t help but feel so incredibly excited about what the future has in store for us. We feel so lucky to have been able to see the amount of love and support received from everyone back home and all around the world now (thank you Air Force).
As of now, we have no date set or any real plans yet, as currently our future is ruled by the Air Force and we are waiting for report dates to Hurlburt Field. For now we are just enjoying being engaged and looking forward to seeing what 2016 has in store for us.

CHEERS~!!
Very excited for you both! Sending much love!
