Safer Skin Care 101- What’s Right For You?

IMG_9705

When it comes to safer skin care, it can be tricky to determine which products or collections may be best for you. But, have no fear, I’m hear to break it all down for you to make it as easy as possible!

But first, a little background on our Self Care Product industry, and why switching to safer products may be your next best move.

IMG_9701

The Self Care Product Industry is one that includes products that we use on ourselves and our families every single day- lotions, cleansers, soaps, shampoo, conditioner, deodorant, and more. The last time that there was any sort of law passed regulating the safety of the ingredients placed within these products was 1938! And since then, over 80,000 new chemicals, toxins, and ingredients have been introduced into these products. Of these 80,000 new ingredients, over 80% of them have never even been tested for their safety. These are products we are exposing ourselves and loved ones to on a daily basis!

These dangerous ingredients are known to be linked to hazardous health defects such as cancers, birth defects, infertility, hormone disruption, and more. And though you may think you’re not a person that uses a lot of “self care products,” know that the average American uses 12 or more of these products a day without truly thinking about it (your soap, shampoo, body wash, deodorant, perfume, moisturizer… these are just a few you may not have thought of). These dangerous products have gotten to the point where the average American Woman now exposes herself to over 100 toxic chemicals before she even leaves her bathroom in the morning!

Currently, in our country we have a list of 30 ingredients that are banned from company use in products. And while this may seem like a fair amount, it is just minimal compared to other places around the world. The European Union for example, has a list of over 1400 ingredients banned from use! It’s incredible just how far behind we are in this industry in regards to safety.

Not only is there no real regulation as to what ingredients companies can and cannot use within their products, but there’s also a phenomenon in our country called Greenwashing. This is a term used to describe the act of putting the terms “healthy” “green” “organic” “safe” and more on the label of a product without really meeting these expectations whatsoever. Technically, these terms mean absolutely nothing in this industry, and a company can label their product as safe and clean all while it’s filled with toxic chemicals and nothing safe at all.

That is why I am truly so passionate about spreading the word and getting safe products out there to everyone. These are products made from Beautycounter- a company with some of the most strict regulations in the United States. A company who refuses to use over 1500 ingredients in their products, all while being 100% transparent.  And today, I’m here to make that so incredibly easy for you in just a few steps! First up, lets start with skin care basics!

Beautycounter has three different skin care collections, each meeting different skin care needs. I’ve created this chart to make finding the best fit for you fairly simple, but I will go through the collections to give you a better idea of what may be best!

WHAT SKIN CARE COLLECTION IS FOR YOU

NOURISHING ESSENTIALS COLLECTION

IMG_9734

This is Beautycounter’s very first skin care line, and is incredibly popular even to this day. This is an organic coconut oil based collection, though it doesn’t leave your skin feeling clogged, oily, or greasy whatsoever. It is incredibly lightweight, unscented, and very gentle. These products also contain aloe, green tea extract, and witch hazel to assist in toning skin.

COUNTERMATCH COLLECTION

IMG_9742

This is Beautycounter’s most recently released collection, and it is gaining popularity day by day because of it’s incredible Bio-Mimic Technology!

Bio-mimic what?????

Beautycounter took a look at skins most fundamental needs- nutrition, hydration, and oxygenation. They then set out to find plant-based ingredients that could provide our skin with those basic needs. While doing this they developed an adaptive skin care collection. Adaptive meaning, the products within the Countermatch collection work together to adapt to your skin and actually change with your skin throughout the day, giving it everything it needs, and nothing it doesn’t. These products work to keep your skin at optimal hydration for up to 24 hours- say goodbye to that afternoon oil and blot pads!! Truly this is a collection unlike any out there on the market today.

Who Is This Collection Good For?
I recommend Countermatch to anyone who has dry or combination skin. Also, if you have sensitive skin, this would be a good match for you.

Who Is This Collection Not So Great For?
If you are oily or acne prone, I’d stray away from this collection and simply stick to the Nourishing Essentials collection!

This Collection Includes:
Pure Calm Cleansing Milk
Intense Moisture Serum
Countermatch Adaptive Moisture Lotion
Recovery Sleeping Cream
Eye Rescue Cream

REJUVENATING COLLECTION

IMG_9750

Say hello to your answer to aging both gracefully and safely! Beautycounter’s Rejuvenating Collection is aimed to target those fine lines and wrinkles, and diminish signs of aging.

Today, millions of women increase their risk of developing cancer all because of the anti-aging products they apply daily. This is all due to an ingredient I’m sure you’ve heard of, RETINOL. Retinol is a form of vitamin A that when introduced to UV light (simply by stepping into the sunshine) causes gene mutation and cell division which lead to cancer. Beautycounter has created anti-aging products that work just as well, but are retinol free, and instead use Jambu extract (an ingredient often referred to as “natures botox”)

Who Is This Collection Good For?
This collection is for you if you’re looking to diminish signs of aging- fine lines, wrinkles, sun/age spots, or acne scarring.

Who Is This Collection Not So Great For?
This collection isn’t the best for you if you have highly sensitive skin. This is because a couple of the products within this collection contain highly active ingredients that may be a little irritating to anyone with super sensitive skin. If this is you, you’ll be perfectly fine with Nourishing or Countermatch!

This Collection Includes:
Rejuvenating Facial Cleanser
Rejuvenating Radiance Serum
Rejuvenating Toner Pads
Rejuvenating Day Cream
Rejuvenating Night Cream
Rejuvenating Eye Cream
