With summer in full swing here, I’ve found myself applying some sort of SPF sun protection daily before leaving the house. Before I had partnered with Beautycounter, I had no idea how bad the major leading sunscreens were. I knew that on some level, the sunscreen we used while at the beach wasn’t all that great for me, however I had no idea to what extent its toxic ingredients were increasing my risk for hormone disruption, cancer development, as well as destroying the living creatures of the water I was swimming in.
What makes Beautycounter’s sunscreen better? Beautycounter’s sunscreen is mineral based and doesn’t include oxybenzone- an incredibly common ingredient in many sunscreens you see advertised as “safe” today.
Beautycounter has a few different options when it comes to sunscreen products. These products are great for all skin types, even those who are acne prone! I personally struggled with sunscreens in the past causing my skin to break out, specifically my face. Between the sunscreen itself mixed with sun and sweat, I had acne all over. In the past, the only brand I could use that wouldn’t cause extreme breakouts was Neutrogena Face Sunscreen- however after research, I’ve found that that is one of the more toxic brands on the market!! So I’m incredibly happy that I’ve found Beautycounter’s sunscreen, that causes no break outs on my face or anywhere else on my body!
Neutrogena sunscreen is rated incredibly high on the Environmental Working Group (EWG) safety app, a whopping 7 out of 10!!! This is due to many of its toxic ingredients, but most commonly used, oxybenzone, is in high volume within this brand.
All of Beautycounter’s sunscreen products blend seamlessly onto skin while protecting against both UVA and UVB rays. From clients who have used this sunscreen brand, they LOVE all of these products. One thing I always hear from these clients is that they love that it doesn’t leave a gross white residue like almost all other mineral-based sunscreen brands do! WHY IS THIS PRODUCT SAFER?
Beautycounter’s sunscreens are mineral-based. This means that instead of using a harmful toxic chemical sunblocker, such as oxybenzone, these sunscreens are made with non-nano zinc oxide. This is a natural mineral that works by reflecting and scattering UV light rays. Not only is this an ingredient that’s safe for us, but it’s also safe for the environment. This mineral has been proven to be NON-TOXIC to our coral reefs, whereas oxybenzone and other toxic commonly used ingredients in susncreens are proven harmful to our waters and it’s living creatures.

HOW TO USE THIS PRODUCT
Apply liberally to exposed areas 15 minutes before sun exposure. Reapply after 40 minutes of swimming or sweating (after 80 minutes if you’re using the Protect All Over Sunscreen). Apply immediately after towel drying, or at least every 2 hours.

-I use the Protect Lip Balm daily, putting it on before I leave the house. I then leave it in my bag and reapply every couple of hours throughout the day. Our lips contain very little melanin compared to the rest our body. Because of this, our lips essentially have no protection from the harmful UV rays from the sun, leading them to get sunburned more frequently and severely.
-For the Protect Stick Sunscreen (Face), I apply a streak on my forehead, nose, chin, and cheeks and then spread using my fingertips. For me personally, I found that when I just rub the stick all over my face, it leaves my skin feeling and looking oily and greasy. I get the same amount of protection if I just use the stick on the main areas of my face and then spread accordingly!
This summer, you won’t catch me without at least some sort of SPF protection, specifically my Protect Lip Balm. It’s been a miracle to finally have a sunscreen that’s both safe and doesn’t cause me to break out!
