A Very “Crabby” 4th of July

No, this wasn’t one of my “Hangry Mattea” moments, it was a day at Crab Island!!!

Crab Island is a large sand bar right off of Destin. Every weekend you can find people pulled up on their boat, standing in the water, socializing with the alcoholic drink of their choice. We had yet to go since we moved here and were excited once we had the opportunity!

The cluster of boats is Crab Island

First and foremost, our 4th of July started off with adding the most appropriately timed permanent feature of our new home- Our Flag!

Beautiful, right? Now we could officially start our holiday

Throughout the entire Fort Walton Beach, Shalimar, and Destin areas there are tons of places to rent Pontoon Boats for a day. So, on the 4th we reserved a boat and headed to Crab Island with a group of 10 friends! It was the first time we’ve been out on the water since we’ve lived here and it was great! The water was the beautiful emerald turquoise color and the temperature was just right. I could have stayed all day.

(Excuse the poor photo quality, too scared to bring our nice camera onto a boat at Crab Island, so iPhone it is!)

The evening ended with a BBQ at our friends’ Aaron and Hannahs new home. They have access to the Sound, so once it got dark we headed out on the dock where you could see the fireworks from Destin, Fort Walton, and Navarre!

It was a perfect 4th of July holiday spent with friends in the sun and sand!
